The Benefits Of Having A Reptile As A Pet

Blog

Keeping a reptile as a pet is not for everyone. Some people prefer cats or dogs, and that's totally understandable. But if you're looking for a pet that's a little less conventional, then a reptile (such as a lizard or turtle) can be a very good choice. Here are some key benefits of keeping a reptile as a pet.

They are quiet

Some lizards make quiet sounds now and then. Turtles don't really make any noise, and snakes only hiss on rare occasions. In any case, you won't have to worry about your reptile barking when someone comes to the door or meowing to wake you up in the morning. If you like peace and quiet in your home, a reptile is a great pet to choose.

There's no shedding

Cats and most dogs shed, which means you have to vacuum up their hair and lint roll your clothing. With a reptile as a pet, you don't need to worry about this. Some reptiles do shed their skin periodically, but it comes off in one or a few pieces and stays in their cage; it does not get all over your things.

They only need periodic feeding

Some snakes only eat once a week or so. Lizards tend to eat more often, but you can fill a dispenser with lizard pellets and leave it for a few days, providing fresh food like crickets intermittently. You won't have to feed your reptile two or three times per day like you would with many other pets, which saves you time and frees up your schedule a bit.

They don't require training

Some people do train their snakes or lizards to do simple things, but this training is entirely optional and only done for fun. You don't need to train a reptile to ask to go outside or to sit on command. You just get to enjoy their presence without this extra work.

They attract a lot of interest

When other people visit your home, they will see your reptile and want to know more about it. Since reptiles are not as common as dogs and cats, friends and family members are likely to be more curious about them.

Having a reptile as a pet is not for everyone, but if the benefits above sound appealing to you, then having a reptile may be for you. Talk to the owner or manager of a reptile shop to learn more.

choosing a pet day care for your beloved dog

Our pets are like our children — they need to be cared for when we are away. After being a stay at home mom for many years, I had to make some serious adjustments when I reentered the workforce. My children are all grown, but my dog just can't be home by himself. I had to find a day care for him to go to when I went to work. I was conflicted — how do I choose the day care that will provide him with the love, care and attention that he is used to? This blog will provide you with the same tips that I was given that helped me choose.
